This series of online activities will exercise your ability to compare numbers - to see which is larger, smaller or whether one is the same as another. There are different ways to show the time - with a clock face with hands showing do math games, minutes and seconds; on a digital clock in numbers; or with the numbers written in words - and there are exercises in this section to test them all. The activities range from basics - such as being able to place the numbers in their correct place on the clock face in Clock Face to being able to get coursework done times in different formats.

The more complex games ask you to work out what the time will be in a certain number of hours or minutes too, testing your math problems games to add or subtract time. Even the tougher challenges can be fun, however, with games such as ClockworksBedtime Bandits and Matching Times proving an enjoyable way to learn!

Counting is carried out in steps - you can count in steps of one at a time, such as 1,2,3 and so on, but you can also count in steps of more than one. Perhaps you might count in steps of three - counting up in threes such as 3,6,9,12,etc. This is called skip counting. The exercises in this section range from skipping 2s to 5s and more - some of the activities allowing you to specify which number you wish to use to skip count.

My math games of the activities challenge you to count backwards, such as in the Skip Counting Back And Forth drill, and some start counting from higher numbers - you could start in the hundreds. Practice makes the number steps familiar - and helps you learn the pattern of numbers in skip counting, making it easier to build on for more math challenges ahead! I needed that time with my old-school calendar planner to make some order out of the chaos in my brain and to reassure myself that I would not be heading into my classroom in the next day or week or whenever without a solid game plan.

Aside from grading endless stacks of papers, one of the chief teacher stressors is lesson planning. What else would explain the myriad websites, curriculum companies, and resources that exist to help mitigate the day-to-day planning process? Think Big Picture In a planning meeting, I once listened to a group of teachers debate which podcast to use to demonstrate a concept for about 40 minutes. The truth is, any of the podcasts or a choice of all would have been just fine; the more pertinent question was whether a podcast was the best way to maximize student acquisition of the concept at that point in time.

It is pretty easy to forget the forest as we look at trees or, even more common, individual leaves. To combat this tendency, keep the central focus in a visible place at all times. I typically take student learning goals for a unit and write them in huge block letters at the top of my calendar for every week of planning.

As long as students are engaged and can show their progress, that should be our primary measure of success in planning. Stay One Week Ahead My first year teaching, a helpful teacher with far more experience came up to me one day as I was flipping through a curriculum binder in what must have appeared to be agony.
